5 reasons to why most of us miss high school

You woke up every morning wishing that you didn't have to go to school, wanting freedom from that repetitive routine that drains your energy day after day. Finally, the day arrives, you finally got what you wanted and day after day, you realise that you wish you could go back and do it all over again.

Here the top 5 reasons to why many of us miss being in school:

1. Work

In most of our work lives we don't follow the career path we would have wanted to follow most. We hobbled through school thinking we would find freedom afterwards but we find ourselves stuck in another routine we don't like but have to be in to make a living. The pressure from work can be exhausting, something we would easily trade for abit of homework and studying. Money doesn't come easily, increased responsibilities and effort make us wish we only had to make sure we pass each test and exam that was put Infront of us and we good.

2. Socialising

Socialising in high school was alot more convenient for many of us. We didn't have to look far for friends, they were with us almost every day. It wasn't difficult to have fun, being young with alot of energy and time made socialising alot easier. At work, many of us don't work in spaces where co-workers can be called friends. Our high school friends moved on- we even lost contact. The pressure from being an adult can exhuast ones tolerance to be around people, reduce positive energy and lead to depression.

3. Responsibilities

Remember waking up and being able to watch TV the entire weekend or just do whatever you want away from home? Now you have responsibilities that take your time, whether it's sorting out bills or looking after kids or working, you find that everyday you don't have time to do the things you enjoy doing.

4. Regrets

Many of us took school for granted, we were happy to study at the last minute and just do enough to pass a test. Little did we know that not putting the effort into the books affects our career's afterwards. Our entry into academic institutions are blocked, or someone got that job because they did abit better than us in school, or we don't want to go back to study because we alot older now and we don't see a way to balance family life and studies, or work life and studies. Many of us didn't get that bursary or financial assistance because we didn't get the required grades, and many of us just now we didn't do our best and after getting pushed to constantly be better everyday after highschool- we realise how much better we would have done in high school if we managed to put the same effort we putting into life now back then.

5. Positive reinforcement

Most importantly, some of us enjoyed school. We played sport, we did well in test, we hung out with friend's, and there was a sense of achievement in everything. Getting a new app that everyone spoke about was gratifying, being able to talk to people about last night's game without talking about work and responsibilities made you feel cool, getting me. Now getting a sense of achievement or gratification is alot more difficult, because it's alot more difficult to notice when achievements are made. Many of us don't have positive reinforcement. Nobody is patting our backs whenever we do the slightest thing right or the slightest cool thing.
